Compared with 趣味 itself this expression is quite rare. There are other more obvious ones. |

I don't think we've added any [noun]を[noun]する expressions in recent years. The only collocations we tend to accept nowadays are non-literal idiomatic phrases. |

I'm not seeing a strong case for including this. |

Re: a+b
See: 趣味を極める
I agree this entry is a+b in isolation, but it is misleading for a Japanese learner to see 趣味を極める as the sole gloss for "pursue a hobby" in jmdict. And, I think the case for 趣味を極める is quite strong. (Also, as noted in n-grams, this is a preferable form over many other terms glossed "pursue", so it is not completely without value on its own). |

google 趣味を追求する "hobby", plenty of independent sources.

趣味を追及して 33 18.0%
趣味を追いかけて 0 0.0% (another "pursue" guess, doesn't work...)

Neither the reading nor the "correct" kanji are inherently guessable.
More than that, I am about to add another expression for "to pursue a hobby" which is more common, but far less self-evident. I would prefer to not have one expression listed without the other.
Added 追究する as [sK] because while not on n-grams, it is on twitter.
Note: I rather like that 追求する、追及する and 追究する are independent entries, but there is evidently/obviously some amount of overlap with terms like this one. |
