サラリー-マン in most kokugos so サラリー・マン is OK to keep for "compatibility purposes," I think.

Hmm, a specific cultural term will be limited in its context of course (just like you won't hear too much about onsen outside of when Japan is being discussed). The editorial policy (http://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/Editorial_policy#Romanized_Japanese) seems to be mainly concerned about whether the term is in the English lexicon. I agree that it's not the best gloss and could be confused, but it'd be for those who know the term already, while the remaining glosses will suffice for others. |
