May as well add 心見る back while we're at it. |

Many major English dictionaries have a policy of only using terms in the glosses which appear elsewhere as headwords or sub-headwords. Sadly none of the JJs follow that policy.
I think they are using 心見る as 心+見る rather than as a stand-alone verb. |

most of the refs have a note like (心見るの意), but none of them
seem to include 心見る as a headword itself

I think "test" might work in some cases, but it's probably a bit misleading
as a gloss in this entry – more ambiguous than it's worth to include (?)
In the dozens of ALC examples on 5 webpages, the word "test" appears only
once, and in that example [アイデアを試みる], "to try out" would have worked just
as well.
-
Genius WaEi: to try; to attempt
-
ALC:
試みる
have a fling
make an attempt
take a pop
take a shot
take the shot
【他動】
try
【自動】
attempt
try |
