a quick check suggests the sens was dropped from 畳の上で死ぬ, but from none of the others. |

the original [sens] list comes from a batch of words that were banned on NHK (usu. for being politically incorrect)
i don't think there are that many compound verbs that take the form ~死ぬ. all of the modern japanese ones (焼け死ぬ, 溺れ死ぬ, 凍え死ぬ) were banned on nhk, and all are marked [sens]. 死ぬ itself is also marked as [sens]. presumably it was felt that these are all just too blunt to say on TV. |
