I definitely think it's one sense but I don't have any strong feelings as to whether we make it "Mr. Monkey" or just "monkey" (with a note)

Should this really be a single sense? And if "Mr. Monkey; Mr. Ape" stay, shouldn't there be some note? Solo they look like characters in a kid's book.
