It sounds plausible that 歯科 could be used colloquially as an abbreviation of 歯科医, 歯科医師, etc., but since it's not in any references, I feel we need to see some examples of actual use. I've done a bit of Googling looking for cases where it's used in the same contexts as 歯科医, etc. but no success. |

From personal observation I know that people use "歯科" colloquially like "歯医者", perhaps simply as a shortened form of "歯科医" or "歯科医院". Is there a way to account for this in the dictionary? I don't know, however, if this colloquialism is specific to Okinawa or more widely obervable. |
