Actually, this "federal officials" gloss from Eijiro is pretty bad - it's clearly referring to the US Justice Department. |

Let's give 司法省 another sense, then. GG5 just has that as "〔米国の〕 the Department of Justice.", ignoring the historical Japanese institution.
