The figurative meaning seems mostly to be 走馬灯のように.
I think it's really two senses. Maybe this works. |

I found some examples of 走馬灯 being used figuratively without 〜のよう or 〜ごとく
https://www.crunchyroll.com/erased/episode-1-flashing-before-my-eyes-691793
At time 3:15
"What the hell is this? That thing where my life flashes before my eyes..."

"You're probably reliving your childhood now as your life flashes before your eyes!" |

Nobody can blame JMdict for the mistake, of course. But I think
mistakes like this are useful for finding entries that can be more
helpful. |

mk has 1 sense but a note: ◇「─のように」「─のごとく」の形で、次々と過去のことを思い起こすようすのたとえにも使う。
|

Not a fan of this way of dealing with it, not sure what the best way would be to incorporate that if we wanted to, but I know I preferred the entry the way it were to how it's now.
(also I don't think we can be brought to task for every single mistake anime fan subtitlers make... ;) ) |

The JEs use this phrase. Maybe have them as figurative glosses? |

Marcus wrote on a rejected edit in 2014:
this is in prog as
"子供時代の思い出が走馬灯のように駆け巡った
Memories of my childhood were flashed back in rapid succession."
and in eij as
"人生が走馬灯のように駆け巡る
see one's life flashing in front of one"
but it's always "のように". I see no evidence of it being used like this by itself.
”走馬灯のように駆け巡る” could on the other hand perhaps be an entry: "to flash back before one's eyes" |

I think it needs a mention here since it's so likely to cause confusion (see the referenced tweet). |
