More a matter of inconsistent orthography. Sense 2 is almost always written メーター, but GG5 confirms it can also be メートル. We could split, or even add メートル to the メーター entry but frankly I think it's best left as it is for simplicity. I've added a note. |

メートル:米 is 99:1 for these four examples. Safe to [rK]?
Sense [2] should be split since it's a different source word, correct? |

You're right, I missed that the daijr entry was a kanwa entry. I
don't have access to nikk since it disappeared from yahoo, so I
don't know, I think this is most likely fine as is. |

i've no doubt that べい means metre (in a kanwa way), but that entry cited from daijs is a kanwa entry. (i.e., it is not tagged as a noun). so that supports metre being listed as a definition of 米[べい] in kanjidic (which it already is), not edict.
none of my sources have a non-kanwa entry for 米[べい]. the only source for it being non-kanwa is that nikk entry, but they don't seem to give it as a gloss (it appears to be inserted parenthetically as a note after defining 米[べい] as こめ. what is the rest of the nikk entry? |

As for more evidence for 米(べい) meaning meter, it's also
in daijr: べい【米】③ 長さの単位を表す。メートル。 「平米・立

I can't see that as a case for べい being here. At the very most it could be a note on sense 1, but I'd want more evidence of べい meaning metre/meter. |
