I think it should be added, and I have proposed it. I think the reading should be just いよ. |

Jim,
1. If we keep わた.る as a reading of 弥 in KanjiDic,
shouldn't we then add 弥る as a surface form of わたる in JMDict?
2. What should the reading corresponding to 弥々 (いよいよ) be?
いよ, いよいよ or いよ.いよ? |

What a mess.
Johan's suggestion lines up with what Shibano et al. settled on. I'm inclined to settle on that too, but maybe squeeze in わたる as well.
BTW, Unidic has 弥る as an alternative surface form for 練る/ねる. I won't go there. |

The kanji 弥 has the following kun reading in KanjiDic:
いや, や, あまねし, いよいよ, とおい, ひさし, ひさ.しい, わた.る
Above is a table of all words in JMDict with kun readings of 弥.
We see that there are no examples of あまねし, とおい, ひさし, ひさ.しい and わた.る.
The reading いよいよ is from 弥々(いよいよ) and is misleading. Here the kanji is read いよ,
so I think the reading should be either いよ or いよ.いよ.
The reading よ only occurs in 弥立つ so I think we can treat as irregular and skip it.
I propose the following list of kun readings
や, いや, いよ.いよ. |
