I think it's best left alone. My 2020 comments still apply (of course). It differs from ゝ、ヽ、ゞ and ヾ in that they are classified as kana in the regular JIS tables and 〻 is not. |

FWIW, we have ゝ、ヽ、ゞ and ヾ, all of which are useful to have. This would be no different. |

Actually I think it's probably pushed to one side for now. It's in a twilight zone as it's more punctuation than kanji or kana. I don't want to see it in the database as a pseudo kana. |

This character is similar to 々 which we've had forever. It was not in the JIS standards initially; arriving in 2000 in JIS X 0213. which calls it a "Vertical Ideographic Iteration Mark" (quoting from the Unicode standard.) My 5th ed. Koj (2000) mentions it in the 二の字点 entry (the EB edition uses an image.)
It doesn't have a reading; I'm using おなじ as a dummy as it's only acceptable to the database as a kanji, and hence needs a reading (we've done that with 〃). I'll try and get this changed. I do think it needs to be recorded here. |
