GG5: 〔(食物を)よそう〕 serve; help 《sb to some food》; dish 「up [out].
中辞典: 〈食物を〉 serve; fill 《a person's plate》 《with stew》; dish up 《the meal》; help a person 《to some salad》
ルミナス: (食器に食べ物を) serve [他]; (いっぱい入れる) fill
  Comments:
I'm quite comfortable with the former version - I think "serve" is broader than that Wiktionary entry implies. It seems we are in good company with the major JEs.

  Comments:
"to serve" means "To set down (food or drink) on the table to be eaten; to bring (food, drink) to a person." [wiktionary]
the kokugos say this is the act of filling a plate, not bringing food.
I frankly do not see any reason why this has "to serve" let alone first.

  Comments:
I've seen 盛る used for filling an inflatable beach toy with air.
Before Robin's last edit, that was covered by sense 2.
Now it's missing.
We could either follow gg5 and put "fill up" back in sense 2,
or we could follow daijs and make sense 1 less food specific.
