"inert gas" and "noble gas" aren't necessarily synonymous. Wikipedia describes the former as a historical name for noble gasses. |

Happy to drop it but it seems 希ガス still reigns in references, and makes up about 99% of WWW hits. |

|
Comments: |
The 日本化学会 proposed in 2015 to use「貴ガス」in textbooks, in line with the 2005 recommendation of the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) to henceforth use "noble gas" in English. In light of the recommendation, is the [oK] tag on 「貴ガス」 still valid, or should it be used instead for the other 2 forms 「希ガス」、「稀ガス」 ? |

yeah.
also, given the different etymologies of sense 1 and sense 2 and that we're splitting up identical katakana terms based on english word of origin, i'd say there's also an argument for splitting this into two separate entries. basically the term is ateji for sense 2 but not for sense 1, and we have no way of indicating that if they're merged |

For odd expressions like this (where the etymology/origin isn't necessarily obvious), I think there should always be a note.
X-refs are used for many things. It's not as explicit as saying "this comes from 気がする". |

There's already an xref to 気がする, is the
note really needed? |
