there's also this sense in nikk that I'd want to include:
⑥ 能楽で用いる小道具の一つ。将棋の駒を大きくした形の薄板に表裏ともに金箔を押したもの。能「金札」の頭にかぶる輪冠(わかんむり)の上
の立物(たてもの)として、また、「羅生門」の渡辺綱が、証拠の標札として手にする時に用いる。

because even in modern day depictions of Watanabe no Tsuna (who fought a demon at the Rashomon), he sometimes holds a 
signpost with the characters "金札" on them. 
(but it's hard to come up with a good gloss for this sense)
