We usually do a short disambiguation within brackets just for the first gloss even when there's several glosses. If it looked as if it was a
wild card in hanafuda and a storm card in something else to you, I think it must have been the additional brackets on the 3rd gloss that was
throwing you off. I don't think that information belongs in a note, unless we decide that's how we want to format all of our entries.
And again, info on the English gloss isn't what we'd usually put inside brackets. I think it'd be good if we could come up with another way
of relaying this type of information other than stuffing it inside brackets, because just stuffing all types of things inside them makes for
confusion. |

If sense 1 is always hanafuda I think we have to say so. It looked like it was a wildcard in hanafuda and a storm card in something else.. Since "gaji" is not a regular English term, some extra information is realy needed. |

Well, it's not correct, the word "gaji" _is_ used specifically in Hawaii, but I think we do have an issue in general with using brackets that a way
that can be confusing. The initial "(in hanafuda)" is a sense-wide disambiguation, yes, but normally we wouldn't make that into a sense-wide note.
In the policy we have this:
"as with the use of "e.g." and "i.e." above, it is OK to add a few words of extra information in parentheses after the translation. The situations
where this is done include:
- providing some context for the term;
- short disambiguations;
- short explanations for technical words or words where the meaning might not be clear to a literate user;
scientific names of species (but only when it is following a common name). This is explained more fully below."
I don't think "usage note on the _English gloss_ " should appear in brackets like this. We did for example have some glosses previously with things
like "(BrE)" "(AmE)" "(AusE)" but I think all of them have been removed. |

It needs some explanation as it's not a generally understood word in English. It's not the same as snow peas vs mange tout.
Is sense 1 all about hanafuda? If so the (in hanafuda) should become a sense-wide note. |

I think "in Hawaiian hanafuda" is a little confusing here. It doesn't mean the same thing as "(in hanafuda)" above, but is a usage
note on the English word. It could be a "hawE" type of gloss though (if we introduced BrE AmE etc. gloss types) |
