If a person looks for the Japanese word for "swimming" on, for instance, jisho.org, they see the kanji compounds 水泳 and 遊泳. Without nuance, there's no way for a dictionary user to tell these two apart, only if the person previously knows 遊, but should we make these assumptions? |
