I believe this also has a more general meaning of "throw oneself into" -- not necessarily water. I've seen it used that way. Also see for example http://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/srch/all/身投げ/m0u/ -- although the example sentence involves drowning, the river is specified in the sentence, and the definition is the more general form. |
