I think the original version was to show it wasn't Biblical-style creation. Addding "generation" makes that clear enough, I think.

I don't think it's helpful to add "(e.g. work of art)". It tends to suggest that it involves the creation of something concrete or tangible, or that it is something artistic rather than something utilitarian. Neither seems to be true necessarily. In fact, it seems that it is usually something intangible and/or utilitarian. It is commonly used in economics in referring to the creation of employment, cash flow, revenue, markets, trade, demand, industries, income, etc.
