GG5: one's presence (felt by others).
中辞典: 存在感のある人 a person who has [emanates] presence
ルミナス: 彼女は*存在感のある女性だ She is the type of person who makes her presence felt |

Comments: |
As Richard pointed out, not necessarily a person. |

(My main point was that it's *not* necessarily a person.) |

Doesn't that make it less clear in my four examples, where it is an inanimate object (a piece of calligraphy, a mushroom, etc.) that has presence, not a person? |

Making it just a whisker clearer. |

Although GG5 uses it, I think the use of "one's" in the current EDICT definition makes it sound like it is about a *person's* presence. In fact, it relates to inanimate things as well:
- 彼の書法には存在感がある
- このうどんは、肉の存在感が大きいです。
- シロオニタケは毒菌だけど、存在感があって好きだなあ。
- 存在感のある彫刻
.
Of course, you can't just say "presence" as that's too ambiguous.
I propose to add (impressive quality) to make the meaning clearer. |
