I really think 無頼 doesn't fit here. Rene added it 2 years ago based on shinmeikai but no other reference has it, and it's already an entry on its own: (無頼 (ぶらい) (adj-no,adj-na,n) (1) villainous; rascally; knavish; (adj-no,adj-na,n) (2) (arch) independent; self-reliant)

Well that's usually the case but I don't think it's mandatory.
It might be useful to have a tag for kanji applied to a term but which don't spell out the
reading. We could use "ateji" as do many references, but it grates a bit.

Doesn't gikun imply that the kanji came first, and the reading later?

No reaction; closing.
