I think 食べ尽くす is a better example.
We're no longer using aux-v for "動詞の連用形に付いて" senses as they're not strictly auxiliary verbs.

Are there any examples of this verb being used as an auxiliary? I feel that the first and third definition could potentially be merged, judging 
from the example sentences in GG5.
