Refs: | So I was reading https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/933585957156bee10a0b3b1921bc1f0f918210d1?page=3 and came across this word. My near-native spidey sense (if I may be so bold) read this as shima+juu, but I wanted to double check. If you google 島中 "とうちゅう" you find mostly jmdict-derived results and a proper name 塩飽島中 which is indeed touchuu but isn't related to this gloss. Googling 島中 "しまじゅう" gives more believable results, for example https://kotobank.jp/word/島中-2047629 which references 精選版 日本国語大辞典. (Ok, I admit a lot of the results are for a place name called shimajuu but still.) |
