I can see what you mean. However, if the text which is being read refers only to "大小" it would be meaningless without context. If however the text, as in the case of my example, refers to "りんごの大小を、くらべました。" the meaning is clear and no other explanation beyond "sizes (various); large and small" would be needed. Likewise, if "大小" is preceded by "の" and in turn then preceded by "drum, sword, month, etc." the meaning would also be equally clear and the entries 2 to 4 become unnecessary. Naturally, I understand that there may be more variations to describing something and maybe with the limitations placed upon the system the existing entry is a reasonable compromise; but I just wanted to make the point from the position of the novice searching a dictionary.

We follow most dictionaries in using a restricted set of tags, as you have probably seen (e.g., {Buddh}, {econ}, {biol}).  As in most dictionaries, we do not have tags for swords or drums.  The only ways to do what you suggest would be to a) add tags for 'swords' and 'drums' to our limited list, or b) add a 'note' to each sense, if it does not fall under our limited list of tags (which would make entries look wildly inconsistent). In my opinion, neither option is particularly well-advised.

In any case, the glosses themselves make it very clear that they are about swords and drums, so I don't really see the problem.

In the text which I was reading this entry related to sorting apples; which is covered by the 1st meaning. In Kenkyusha it also notes the sword relationship, but prefixes the comments with "刀".

I think that it is a good idea to give subject prefix with kanji [as done in kenkyusha] to the meanings because the main entry is itself general.

This submission was prevented by errors in the use of kanji in the "meaning section" which were not included in the entry, i.e.,

restr value(s) '刀' not in the entry's kanji restr value(s) '太鼓' not in the entry's kanji restr value(s) '月' not in the entry's kanji

What I intended to include was as follows:-
