I think 12:30pm is clearer than 1230pm
(and that's what Chicago, AP do, though in the UK a dot is apparently more common than a colon (12.30pm) in 12 hour notation) |

I think this is fine, and I suggest you go ahead and align the other ...の刻 entries in this style.
For dictionary entries, I like 2am, 1230pm, etc. as a style. In text documents I'd probably follow the AGPS style of "2 a.m.", but for dictionary entries I think the shorter version is better. I'll add this to the Policy. |

our ～の刻 entries are a mess (and we don't have all 12) and should be standardized one way or another:
jmdict 1859200 A 亥の刻 いのこく time of the boar (9-11pm)
jmdict 1900650 A 子の刻 ねのこく midnight
jmdict 1897930 A 寅の刻 とらのこく the Hour of the Tiger (roughly 3-5 AM)
jmdict 1891560 A 辰の刻 たつのこく 8 am; the fifth hour; the Hour of the Dragon
my suggestion is this format for all of them: "hour of the ox (around 2am, 1-3am, or 2-4am)"
I think our zodiac entries also should be refined. e.g. the 丑 entry should have different senses like in the kokugos.
We should probably have an item in the policy/editorial guidelines on time formatting too.
(for the record, both AP and Chicago use "2 a.m." while Oxford and the Guardian recommend do "2am") |
