カマス is the group name for several different barracuda species. Not sure "pike' fits. All the JEs say "barracuda".
Perhaps the pike sold in Sendai was mislabelled. |

I haven't researched this in any depth, but the カマスwhich my wife bought at the grocery store in Sendai, Japan today was no barracuda. A quick look at a Sanseido dictionary brought up the translation "pike," along with a picture of the kind of pointy-nosed fish that was on my plate. |
