(Refs all given カルメ焼き and カルメラ as synonyms, and Google 
images confirms, though カルメラ is used for various other 
things too.)
BTW, just to concur with Rene’s earlier point – キャラメル and 
カルメラ are different (cognates, twice borrowed, like コップ 
and カップ), with キャラメル being caramel and カルメラ being 
this sponge toffee.
It might be worth linking these, as confusing cognates?
