礫 is an ancient typo. Totally the wrong kanji. Not the one in GG5, which I mis-read in 2013.
With the 礫刑/磔刑 error removed, we could consider merging 1570050 here.
I think there are really two senses here - the original Japanese one, then the one when the term was adopted by Christians.

If I'm understanding the refs correctly, this is quite different than the Western concept of a crucifixion, in which a person might be nailed or tied to a cross and left to die. In the Japanese variant, they were tied, then stabbed multiple times by spears (or spikes).
