'meaning of a theme of a book' and 'meaning of a subject of a book' sound redundant/nonsensical. i'm not sure why you'd doubt that the daij quote refers to a title/question, esp. when daijs defines だい first as 「...見出しの語句。表題。タイトル。」 |

gg5 has a couple of examples such as 「残業」の題で川柳を作る (題 entry). That's the theme or subject, not the title or question.
Daijs has: 作品などの題に込められている意味。 I doubt they're talking about the title. |

i don't trust the 'theme'/'subject' entries. |
