taiwan ~is~ a part of china, according, e.g. to the kuomintang (also, cf. their official name "republic of china"). the longstanding debate is not whether taiwan is part of china, but which government is the rightful head of all china (incl. taiwan) |

"subgroup of Han Chinese living esp. in ...southeastern China, including Taiwan"
implies that Taiwan is part of China which to some may sound offensive.
Suggesting a meaning without political statements. |
