eij "drool bib"
https://www.billybibs.com/what-is-a-drool-bib
"A drool bib has one job: absorb a baby’s drool. As far as its practical purpose, that’s pretty much it. Because a drool bib isn’t for
catching food, it doesn’t have to protect the entire front of your child’s torso or come with a big pocket in front. It only needs to
cover a baby’s neck and chest."
google images for よだれかけ show both hard plastic bibs (which catch food) and soft drool bibs. |

OK, but it's not "esp. for infants and statues" - the use on statues is incidental and mentioning it seems encyclopedic to me (daij, etc.
make no mention of it). |

Add “esp. infants and statues” – literally this is specifically infants, but it’s also used for the ubiquitous bibs on statues (e.g., 地蔵、稲荷の狐).
Usually red on statues (sometimes white, but v. often red) – dunno if worth putting in entry.
FWIW, it’s not generally used for eating bibs for adults (e.g., for eating messy ramen or shellfish); I’ve heard this as エプロン instead (and got funny reactions when I referred to this as 涎掛け – “that’s for babies!”). |
