I'm with luce. This is a colloquial term that comes from 元 + 彼女 but I don't think "元彼女" can be considered the unabbreviated form. Daijs has "「元の彼女」の意", not "元彼女の略". |

I think the cross-reference to 彼女 should refer to one particular sense, that of "girlfriend". If I am correct, the same change should be made to cross-references from 今カノ and 前カノ. |
