Comments: | How about this? I considered dropping "pity" but noticed it was in 新和英中辞典. ("〈哀れむ〉 pity; take pity on somebody"). We probably don't need it though. |

Comments: | "pity" is not in any of my sources and doesn't really match the definitions in the kokugos (it was in our original entry but i suggest removing it), but we could perhaps indicate that the term is directed toward people in a weaker position than oneself. simply "to love" also doesn't really do it either for that reason |
