i agree.  all refs i can see are related to china.  i think we should consider this as a chinese word that's not japanized

聯網 is used for the Internet in Chinese, and yes 物聯網 is IOT.

I found it in a Japanese document talking about China telecoms services.  The usage was 物聯網サービス

It's really Chinese but there are a few references in current Japanese literature.  Probably mostly talking about IOT in China.
I doubt that this will become a common usage in Japanese.  Mostly just of current interest.
