The current meanings are all fairly extreme -- which makes sense given the literal meaning of the characters -- but the phrase can be used with a less profane nuance as well. As in the example sentence (文法なんかくそくらえだ。 Grammar be hanged.). The reference links have a few examples translated as "dang silly", "nuts to that", and "stuff it". It shows up in the Japanese Harry Potter series as the translation for "codswallop". I've condensed those into "nonsense!" as a second meaning... please add, change, or delete as you see fit. |
