I think Marcus edit is useful

But the first gloss for 興奮 is "excitement",
not "to excite", which makes it a lot less
ambiguous. I might be wrong but I have a
feeling most users without previous knowledge
of the word would assume the vs here
incorrectly means "to bother (sb)" while most
people would not misunderstand 興奮. It might
be possible to solve this by changing the
glosses around somehow, but I think a large
part of the ambiguousness is in the Japanese
word itself, not the translations.

I feel this would probably be clear from context. 興奮する means "to be excited" rather than "to excite (someone)" but we don't have a separate [vs] sense to make this explicit. There are probably countless of examples like this.
