It's broadly a western Japan thing. In the original
submission, the chiebukuro link attested use in Kansai,
Nagoya, and Fukuoka.

I'm not sure I think a split is a good idea (I began
making a comment on 買い物 but the split happened before
I was able to post the comment). Pronouncing 物 as もん
is a thing even in Kanto (though apparently only when
it's by itself, e.g. not in 買い物). I think 買い物 has to
be the first kanji and then that's 2/3 right there.
It's used so widely (e.g. not just Kansai) that I think
it belongs in the main 買い物 entry. |
