Comments: | I was curious as to why the JEs used the same glosses and example sentences for 貸し切る and 借り切る so I did some Googling and came across this: (source above) "私の個人的体験だと、昔バイト先の仲間が「店を貸し切ってパーティーした」とか話した際に、「借り切ってだろ♪」と突っ込むと、変な顔をされたのが記憶に焼きついてる。「貸し切る」という言葉は、共に2006年の『大辞泉 増補・新装版』(小学館)と『大辞林 第二版』を見ても、まだ「貸す」という意味だ。でも社会的には、かなり前から「借り切る」という意味で使われてるのだ。実際、「貸し切って」で検索すると、「借り切って」の意味の用法がズラリとヒットする。この「貸し切る」の意味も、やがて辞書に採用されるかも知れない" Summary: people often use 貸し切る when they mean 借り切る. I wasn't sure how we should handle this but then I noticed that the kokugos have a second sense which isn't all that different from the original "correct" meaning, so this may be enough to cover that usage. |
