Comments: | just realized the daijr examples are not for the volitional form: 「ひく-ひかれず」 「泣く-泣けないありさまだ」 but the meaning seems to be the same? I think "although one might wish otherwise" is a little closer to "しようと思っても" than "although one wants to" |

Comments: | Would it be possible to leave in "although one wants to" as an alternative? GG5 says that it means "しようと思っても" which is not quite the same thing as "どうしても…することができない". |
