Hmmm. I dropped the hiragana version in 2013, but now I'm not sure... |

approving. however ぎょうざ/ぎょーざ is extremely common.
eventually i really think we should get out of the business of recording both katakana and hiragana variants and leave katakana/hiragana conversion up to clients. |

word of recent Chinese origin - カタカナ rather than ひらがな.
though in actual usage, ぎょうざ is actually more common than the
katakana versions, but "餃子" is more common still (b hits -
kanji gets 3.5m, hiragana 500k)
So... I added a nokanji to the hiragana. |

koj, daijr, daijs also have チャオズ, which probably corresponds to jiaozi more
directly. japanese wikipedia has a whole blurb about the etymology of ギョーザ.
apparently it's not so cut-and-dry |

I think gyoza and jiaozi are (slightly) different things. I'm glad to see that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiaozi agrees. Happy to have jiaozi as a source. |
