More discussion on translators' FB page. Plenty of WWW examples of 座ぐり being used for both countersinking and spotfacing. Sense could be split. |

The bowl didn't check out properly. Quite a few roof examples. |

becomes somewhat ugly with the third sense added, but it seems appropriate
does the third sense really apply to bowls? the 座 makes me think that it is specific to the seats of chairs. |

Implementing the merge as Rene proposed. The "esp." notes are based on what I am seeing in Google images, where 座ぐり is almost all about counter sinking, and 座刳り is almost all about hollowing out pieces of wood. No dictionary that I can see has this latter meaning. |

koj also has both these senses merged:
=====
are the senses above the same as the one in daijr for 座刳り?
|
Comments: |
there may be some difference in nuance that i'm not catching, but i think these entries should be merged (perhaps with a restriction, since it doesn't appear that 座刳り can apply to 'hand filature') |

WWW hits confirm 座ぐり is common for this term. Eijiro has "座繰りをした : counter sunk" and there are a few WWW images for 座繰り showing countersinking, but it's in no refs and I suspect it's a typo; hence the "iK". |
