  Comments:
so much katakana... can't it just be left unsaid that words can be written in katakana without us having to record all these forms?

  Comments:
The references don't distinguish between the various readings as to the meaning. The images are different, but one can't place too much stress on them as it's Google fishing an image out of a page containing a term without any reference to the real association. OK as a broad guide, but not safe to place too much stress on it.

about 800 of the ドクロ hits come from the light novel / manga / anime series (2003-) though.

I think this entry could be split to どくろ and されこうべ
based on an image search, どくろ refers to a 2d drawing while されこうべ are real ones.

That (...) didn't make sense.
Koj also has 髑髏 as a way of writing ひとがしら (usu. 人頭). I don't want to go there.

  Comments:
* Put どくろ as first reading – seems *much* more common than others (also listed first in WP, used in derived terms, etc.)
* add glosses “(as symbol of death)” and “death’s head” – this is esp. e.g. pirate flag, poison symbol
