How about simply "discarded tiles". we certainly don't say "river" in English. And it's not a pile, as they are not on top of each other.

I agree it's not really a pile, but "discard area" sounds less 
natural and gets only 1% of the hits of "discard pile", i.e.

I've heard the term "river" for this, though I'm not sure how common it is.
