Comments: | Can possibly be condensed into less senses, but I thought there can be noticeable differences (examples from references above). Sense 1 is non-volitional (e.g. 子供が人込みに紛れる) whereas sense 2 is volitional as in taking advantage of the confusion (e.g. 火事のどさくさに紛れ て奴はそんな事をやったのか). Descriptions like "disappear into/among" doesn't quite work for the latter example. Sense 4 usually (always?) has the form "Aが紛れる" (e.g. 苦痛が紛れる) whereas sense 5 usually has the form "Bに紛れて~" (e.g. 忙しさに紛れて約束を忘れる). Perhaps this two can be combined with the gloss "to be diverted (by/from)" to cover both variants. |
