I think the "celestial maiden" (which was in the original 
てんじん entry) is correct but the definitions are a bit 
confusing. 
enwiki has an entry on "Tennin" and claims 天女 and 天人 
are the same thing, a development of the

(飞天 in Chinese according to wiki)
but daij don't explicitly link 天人 and 天女.
daijs for example does say: 
てんにん: "天上界に住む者。音楽を奏し、天華を降らせ、瓔珞(ようら
く)をなびかせて虚空を飛行(ひぎょう)するとされる。" but there's no 
specific mention of them being female.
