FB Translators' discussion: "What really is a 代表取締役？I have said that it is the president, and been corrected, saying that it is a director. When I said "director" I was corrected, saying that it is a CEO. Yesterday, I tried CEO, and was corrected again, for director. Then later, that was corrected to mean president."

GG5's 会社の組織と肩書き list has "代表取締役 representative director ▲通例, 社長･専務取締役･常務取締役が代表権をもつ取締役となる. 以下の例に見られるように, representative は英語の役職名にはあまり使わない." So "representative director" is rather wasei.
