There was a submission from a regular in early 2010, quoting the Wikip page and saying: "This word should probably have the "sens" tag appended to it, as it has acquired a pejorative meaning. A cross-reference to the neutral word 先住民 would also be beneficial."
I can't see anything in that page that indicates a pejorative nuance. Certainly I was taught to say 原住民 for Australian aboriginal people.
先住民 is not a synonym, of course.
