I think that "one more effort" is a bit too literal. 
もう一頑張り is about raising the level of effort in order to make things perfect, top-class or complete.
"one more effort" sounds like one more in a series of "efforts" -- as in "I'll make one more effort to save the relationship, but if that doesn't work out, that's the end."
I think it's about raising the *level* of effort rather than making one more effort.
