The meaning above seems to me to give slightly the wrong impression; albeit that Kenkyusha supports it. In the English interpretation, in the mind of an Englishman, one at least, this gives the impression of an office in a village. Whereas, in reality this one Englishman thinks that it really means an official office [e., official village office - somewhat smaller than a town hall might imply]. I am sure that a Japanes person would only associate this entry with something similar to the Parish Council Offices [like we have in England]. Your other entries and elsewhere confirm the official nature of "役場", for example:-
役場 【やくば】 (n) town hall; (P)
役人 【やくにん】 (n) government official; (P)
I am suggesting that something implying the concept of official is included in the meaning. |
