Comments: | I read a lot of more recent stuff, and it didn't seem so strongly differentiated as nikk states. I'll add some "esp" notes |

Comments: | going by nikk, かい would be clothes worn on the lower part of the body (e.g. trousers) and したごろも would be clothes worn under another piece of clothing (したぎ). So at least according to nikk, there are two seperate senses and the two words don't share any of them, just the kanji. Now, I don't know whether this fully reflects modern use of the word. |

Comments: | 下衣 + したごろも gets 3.6k hits. 下衣 by itself 270k. This is not arch. Merging in the other version. Not really sure there ate two senses. |

Comments: | seems like the only ref is 万葉集 , so definitely arch. |
