This is from gg5. Daij does not link it directly to すまない, but to 申し訳ない. Koj does list あいすむ as a mere formal way of saying すむ。 So according to koj, it would be ok to copy the すまない gloss. As for daijirin, there's probably not a huge difference between すまない and もうしわけない. I do wonder why they don't make the link between the two. So, yes copying the すまない gloss should be ok. I wish we had some more references.

"Be very sorry" is not an adjective, it's a 
command. Is there any reason not to just 
copy over the equivalent entry from すまな
い?
